Facebook Changed Everyone’s Email to @Facebook.com; Here’s How to Fix Yours

Facebook just removed everyone's email address from their profile and replaced it with an @facebook.com email address without asking you. Here's how to easily fix the problem.

Facebook launched its own Email Service back in 2010, which was promptly forgotten by everyone. This morning, Forbes noticed that they removed everyone's email addresses from their profiles, replacing them with an @facebook.com email address instead (not Facebook's internal email address which they use for notifications and password resets, just the one listed on your profile). Luckily, it's easy to get your old email address back on your profile:

  1. Click "About" on your profile and scroll down to your email address. Click "Edit" to change them.
  2. Click on the circle next to your Facebook email address and change its setting to "Hidden From Timeline".
  3. Click on the circle next to your other email addresses and change their settings to "Shown On Timeline".
  4. Click the Save button at the bottom of the Edit popup (Don't forget this step).
That's all it takes. It's a really quick fix, but it was a big jerk move for Facebook to do this without asking permission, or even telling you that it happened. Spread this info around so people don't get stuck without any contact information, too, lest we lose the one aspect of Facebook that was still useful.
Update: A Facebook spokesperson has responded to everyone's questions on the subject, but they don't have much to say—except that yes, they have given everyone a Facebook email address and rolled out a "new setting that gives people the choice to decide which addresses they want to show on their timelines." They did not explain why (or even acknowledge) that all of these addresses were made default on people's profiles.

Facebook Launches Find Friends Nearby Feature [Updates]

Everyone’s favorite social network Facebook has launched yet another useful, yet controversial, feature. This time around it’s called Find Friends Nearby and it allows you to find potential Facebook friends who are near your current location.

According to Facebook developer Ryan Patterson the app is designed to make it easier to friend people who you meet in real life. “For me,” Ryan says, “the ideal use case of this product is one where when you’re out with a group of people whom you’ve recently met and want to stay in contact with”. The Find Friends Nearby feature will let you quickly locate the person standing next to you among the millions of people with profiles on Facebook.

Anyone with an incredibly generic name can quickly understand the appeal of this. For instance, telling someone to friend “Matt Smith” is nearly the same as telling them nothing. The immediacy of the new feature could be useful, as well, since you may not remember who you wanted to friend a few hours later when you sit down at your PC.

Critics have labeled this the “stalker app” but the feature is currently active only when you have the app open, so no one can find you if you aren’t also looking. And while the feature does let you send a friend request it does not provide detailed location information about the people found.
You should now be able to find this feature in the Other Apps section of your Facebook app on iOS and Android. If you do not see it, double-check that the app is updated to the latest version. The feature is also accessible via web browser.

Rovio launches Angry Birds Heikki

Remember how Angry Birds Heikki was delayed until June 25th? Well today is that day friends. The developer has launched the game and if you want to play it, you better get over to their website and check it out. You’ll be asked to register and then you can play.

It’s basically a racing-themed game with 12 levels. You complete one and then move on to the next. For this game they teamed up with Finnish F1 racing driver, Heikki Kovalainen. The gameplay is more or less Angry Birds with racing as you might expect. Think of it as Mario Kart meets Angry Birds
So now you have 12 new levels of Angry Birds fun to keep you entertained. Happy gaming.

Google Nexus 7 tablet spec, photo leaked in training document

In just a few days, Google I/O 2012 will kick off. In addition to loads of new API and software goodies for developers to enjoy, it’s also expected that the Google Nexus 7 tablet will finally be revealed. And if the leaked training document that Gizmodo Australia got their hands on is real, we already know what it will look like — and what kind of hardware it’s packing.

The Nexus 7 starts things off with a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It’s got the usual 1GB of RAM, a 1.2MP videoconferencing camera, NFC support, and a battery that’s good for around nine hours of use. The 7 in its name refers to the screen, of course — a 7-inch IPS panel that offers a 1280 x 800 resolution. That’s nowhere near Retina Display density, but it’s a solid 215ppi.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will ship pre-installed, and two storage capacities will be offered: 8GB and 16GB. So how much is the Nexus 7 going to cost? The entry-level model comes in at $199 while the extra 8GB of internal storage will set you back another $50. With those prices and specs, it’s clear that Google has their sights fixed on the Kindle Fire. Perhaps more importantly, it looks as though the Nexus 7 will also be available for sale outside the U.S.

The Nexus 7 should offer a substantial performance upgrade over Amazon’s tablet, which was the runaway Android hit of the 2011 holiday shopping season. None of those Kindle Fires shipped with Google Play installed, of course, so most of the delicious app and media revenue went straight to Amazon. Google couldn’t be pleased about that, and they’re out to prove to their manufacturing partners that Amazon isn’t the only company that can build a successful Android tablet.

As Microsoft did when they announced the Surface tablets, Google will use the Nexus 7 to light the way for their partners.

Need For Speed Movie Coming In 2014

EA’s ailing racing series seems to have stolen the heart of Dreamworks, as production of the Need for Speed film is being pushed through for a 2014 deadline. EA’s previous collaboration with Dreamworks chairman Steven Spielberg on cancelled sci-fi video game epic LMNO and successful puzzler Boom Blox no doubt helped smooth proceedings along.

The film is said to be a “fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise”. A bit of a challenge, considering the two don’t really have a lot in common.
EA also says that ”in Need for Speed, the cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story keeps players at the edge of their seat.”

Smartphone accessory revenues at $20 billion in 2012

No matter what smartphone you buy, you are going to need accessories, so it is no wonder that the accessory market is booming. Smartphones are expected to earn the aftermarket accessory industry $20 billion in 2012. That’s more than half of the $36 billion in total industry revenues.

These numbers come from ABI Research. A recent study revealed that smartphone owners spend about $56 on accessories per device, which is almost double the amount of feature phone owners. By 2017, feature phone accessory revenues are estimated to decline to $12 billion, while smartphones accessories should increase to $38 billion. Yep, it is a good time to be a smartphone accessory maker.

“The increasing penetration of smartphones is driving a shift in accessory design toward smart accessories that drive higher levels of consumer interaction, product value, and brand recognition,” says ABI analyst Michael Morgan. “For new market entrants, developing brand recognition is paramount in capturing market share from the incumbents. This is best accomplished by the development of engaging, innovative accessories that extend the value proposition of today’s mass market accessories.”

HTC teases new voice assistant to compete with Apple’s Siri

Apple’s voice assistant Siri is pretty popular, with the likes of Zooey Deschannel and Samuel L. Jackson having some fun with it in recent ads, but HTC is ready to launch their own version of the vocal helper

On Friday HTC posted an image on its Facebook page teasing a voice assistant that would obviously compete with Apple’s Siri and Samsung’s S-Voice. The image features the caption, “Ever wonder what your pet has been trying to tell you all these years?” but don’t worry, they are not releasing something that will help you talk with the dog.
It makes sense that HTC would want a piece of the voice assistant pie, so this isn’t really surprising. It will be interesting to see what their version does and how people like it.

ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 presentation video

We haven’t heard anything from ASUS regarding the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700′s release date in the U.S. However, though this is nothing official, the TF700 has just surfaced in a presentation video, suggesting that it may arrive soon.

The video was leaked by a Reddit user who referred to it as a “Launch Video.” If that still isn’t enough for you, the guys over at Android Authority were told by an ASUS representative, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, that the TF700 would make its U.S. debut at the end of June.

If we can believe that, then this device is ready to launch very soon indeed. We will let you know if we hear anything else. In the meantime, check out the video.

Mozilla has big announcement for Firefox for Android next week

Via their Twitter account, Mozilla announced that something big is coming to Firefox for Android next week. Something fast, smart, and safe. Right now, Firefox for Android is still in beta where it is getting improved. We aren’t sure what the announcement will be, but we like the fast, smart and safe bit.
Hopefully it will be something big and not a let down. Google I/O is happening next week and the rumor is that Google might unveil Android Jelly Bean with Chrome as its standard browser. So what will Mozilla do?
This should be interesting. The browser wars never seem to stop. One day we may have one browser to rule them all, but today they fight! We will let you know what happens here.

Smileys are now Officially Introduced in Facebook Chat

Smileys a unique to express your feelings which we used to add to facebook using 3rd party services like facemoods or using other smileys trick but well now you do not need any extra service or other stuff as Facebook as released their smileys and embed them directly into the chat like in the image on the right.

3 Cool Ways to Merge your Facebook Profile Picture with Timeline Cover

Despite the huge amount negative feedback the greeted Facebook Timeline, the feature that almost everyone love is the cover picture that allows you to express yourself and even showcase what you like to do. You can create your own timeline banners if you’re good with Photoshop or simply use an image from your gallery. You can as well download from any of the sites offering timeline covers for free. Timeline has come to stay and you can’t get back to your old profile. I’ve learned to live with it and make the most of it. I stumbled across a couple of sites offering you a cool ways to customize your timeline banner by combining it with your profile picture, making the two look like one.

1. TimelineCoverBanner

This is the best because I tried each of these services to know which rocks harder.TimelineCoverBanner has a lot more tools to customize your timeline banner and make the most of it. Merging your profile picture with timeline cover is quite easy and even if you’re not a graphic designer, you can still create something awesome. Apart from just combining your profile photo with your timeline, you can add some text to spice it up. Just click on Upload Background, zoom using the tool on the right and drag it around to fit in.

This site too have some free tools you can use to customize your timeline cover. You can merge you profile pic and timeline cover, tear off the bottom of the cover, create a zoom effect and lots more.

3. Adobe Photoshop

If you’re not a Photoshop geek, you may not be able to get this done. I found this video on Youtube that might help you do this yourself with Photoshop.
I prefer the first on the list because it’s rather easy to use and it offers more options and really flexible. Like the post? It only takes five seconds to share with your friends on Facebook.

Apple iPad 2 Gets Dropped 100,000-Feet from Space Still Survives

Apple iPad 2  survive a 100,000-foot fall from space? Well, wonder no more as “G-Form wanted to demonstrate how well their Extreme Edge sleeve protects the iPad, so they hooked one up to a weather balloon, and sent it up 100,000 feet to the edge of space.” Video after the break.

New Apple iPhone 5 Picture Leaked

New Apple iPhone 5 Picture Leaked. Here’s How It’ll Look

The new Apple iPhone 5 is probably the most anticipated smart phone at the moment – they say it’ll be the only phone able to make a real competition to the Samsung Galaxy S3. According to the old Apple tradition, the iPhone 5 will most likely be launched in fall. And before that, we have some interesting leaked pics demonstrating its design and allowing us to make some assumptions on its features.
Not so long ago some pics showing different parts of the new iPhone 5 leaked, but now’s the first time we can see it assembled.

Well, the iPhone 5 (if it’s the real iPhone 5!) seems to be rather stylish. We can see on the pic that its display is bigger than that of the iPhone 4S, measuring at 3.8 or 4 inches or even more (let’s hope they haven’t made the screen bigger at the expense of the pixel density!). Unlike the glass body of the iPhone 4S, the chassis of the iPhone 5 is most likely made from metal and plastic; yeah, glass looks cool, but metal is more durable.

What else can we see on the pics? Not much, I’m afraid. But still, the new iPhone 5 looks very nice, and if it’s armed with good hardware features, too, it’ll really become the most serious rival of Samsung’s famous Galaxy S3. Its chances will become even higher if it comes with 3D UI that was patented by Apple several months ago.

And here are the other leaked pics of the upcoming iPhone 5:

Facebook Trick: Javascript to Select All Friends for Fan Page / Event Invitation

Just a few days ago, I sent over 2,500 invitations to my facebook friends, asking them to like my fan page. You think I selected them one by one? Come on, you know that’s definitely not possible, I used a simple javascript that saved me the trouble of selecting them one after the other. With this script, I was able to select all friends and send the fan page invitation. Selecting your friends can be quite stressful especially if the page is new and you have tons of invites to send.

So, how Did I go about it?

- See the bookmarklet below? Drag it to your bookmarks toolbar.
Select All Friends

- After that, go to your fan page and click on Build Audience > Invite Friends

- When your friends list come up, simply click on the bookmarklet you dragged to your toolbar earlier.
- It automatically selects all your friends and you can now send the invitation!
Hey, you may have to repeat this process a number of times depending on the number of people you have on your list. I tried it on a fan page but a friend also said it worked for event invitation. In case you have a facebook group too, you can try it and let us know if it works.

How to Share Your Computer Network Connection with iPhone / Android / Symbian Phone / other PCs

It’s easy to use your mobile phone connection with your PC but it can be a bit technical trying to do it the other way round. You need to go to your active network connections and share your active network connection but this can be a bit technical if you don’t know much about these things. I can easily share my computer network connection with my iPhone through wireless connection without doing much settings.Connectify doesn’t do that only, it lets share your computer connection with computers around you so.
Connectify also allows you to password your internet connection so unauthorized users won’t have access to your connection. So, whether you need to share your internet connection with your Android device, iPhone, Symbian smartphone, your friends or any wireless enabled device, this software lets you do it even if you know nothing about networking.

How to use Connectify

I used Connectify to share my Windows PC network connection with my iPhone and a friend’s computer. I didn’t do much settings and you can even use this if you’re a total noob like me :D
- First download Connectify and restart your computer
- Start Connectify and do the basic settings you’re going to need

- You must note that the password can only be between 0-9 and A-F.
- Click on Start Hotspot and search for your this network with another phone or any other computer around.
- Simply connect and input the WEP Key you set up earlier and you’re connected. Check out my phone’s screenshot below:

It’s as easy as that! Now you’re sharing your computer’s internet connection with your mobile phone. If there’s any unauthorized person connected to your network, you can easily detect and disconnect them by checking the Clients tab:

That’s my iPhone conected. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t just for sharing your computer’s network connection with your mobile phone only, you can use it to share your connection with any wireless enabled device without much knowledge in networking. Cool, huh? ;)

Make Your Android device Battery Last Longer

In case you are frustrated by your Android device battery life, the following tips may help you. Learn how to make your battery lasts between 1 and 2 days depending on use by reading through:

First of all, you should disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not in use. As for your Bluetooth, you can disable it manually from the home screen, press the Menu button - tap Settings -select Wireless & networks – Find Bluetooth and uncheck to disable it.

You can disable Wi-Fi the same way manually, but there also is an automatic way to do this. Install the free Wi-Fi On-Off widget from android marketplace. After installing long press on your home screen, select "Widgets" then "Wi-Fi On-Off. Enabling Wi-Fi only when you actually need, helps improving your battery life a lot.

Syncing takes a lot of battery, especially when it is done improperly. The optimal way to synch is discussed below.

Sync only your own calendar by following these steps: open Calendar, select Menu->More->My calendars->Menu->Remove calendars. Select all calendars except your own and click OK. Do not just disable the other calendars, you must actually remove them. . This can save a lot of battery and memory as well, while making syncing much faster.

Adjust screen brightness, which is most probably set on automatic mode. If you’re not reading something on your smartphone or tablet at the very moment, reduce brightness to save battery. For this, go to Menu>Settings>Display>Brightness and uncheck the "Automatic brightness" box. You'll now have a slider with which you can adjust your screen.

Hope these tips above help you make the best use of your Android device. Keep in touch, more tips are to come.

Lamborghini intros luxury Android smartphone (TL700), tablet (L2800)

Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini has unveiled three own-branded phones, and one own-branded tablet in Russia. They’re all luxury devices and, interestingly, the tablet and one of the handsets run Android.
The Android handset is called Lamborghini TL700. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and features a 3.7 inch WVGA sapphire crystal display, a Qualcomm processor of unknown speed, 5MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 4GB of internal memory, and a 1,400 mAh battery. Its case is made out of expensive materials, including gold and crocodile skin. The TL700 will cost 90,000 RUB (about €2,200, or $2,750), and this is what it looks like:

The Lamborghini tablet – L2800 – disappointingly also runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but it reportedly will receive an update to Android 4.0 ICS at some point. The tablet comes with a 9.7 inch, 1024×768 pixels sapphire crystal display, 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor (probably single-core), 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and an arguably nice pair of speakers on the back. The L2800 will cost 75,000 RUB (about €1,840, or $2,290).

The two other phones that Lamborghini showcased – TL688 Spyder and TL820 Spyder 2 – are just featurephones with a similar design. The TL688 Spyder offers a 2 inch QVGA display, GPRS / EDGE connectivity, 3MP rear camera, and 4GB of internal storage space. The TL820 Spyder 2 sports a 2.4 inch screen with a high 640 x 480 pixel resolution, and features 3G, a 5MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 1GB of internal memory (expandable), and a 1,200 mAh battery. Gold and leather have been used to create the cases of both hadnsets. The TL688 is priced at 60,000 to 70,000 RUB, while the TL820 is more expensive: 80,000 RUB.

All four new Lamborghini products should become available in Russia starting August. There’s no word if any of them will make it to other markets or not.
As some of you may already know, it’s not the first time when Lamborghini ventures into the mobile space. Back in 2008, it collaborated with Asus to launch the ZX1 phone, but the project was cancelled eventually. In 2009, the Italian car maker teamed up with TAG Heuer, and introduced the Meridiist Lamborghini – a limited edition luxury handset.
